In this exercise, participants will toss a ball among themselves while focusing on its perceived weight and size. The director will guide the exercise by calling out different weights for the ball.
Setup Requirements
Open space for participants to toss a ball.
Point of Concentration
On the weight and size of the ball.
Side Coaching
The ball is one hundred times lighter!
The ball is one hundred times heavier!
The ball is normal again!
Points of Observation
Watch for students using their bodies to express relationship to the ball.
Did the body appear light and float with the lighter ball?
Did the body become heavy with the heavier ball?
Evaluation
Were all players concentrating on the weight of the ball?
Did they physically express this or just verbally tell us?
Examples
For lighter ball: "Look how easy it is to throw!" For heavier ball: "Wow! I can barely lift it!"
