Random Walk

Description

Random Walk is an exhilarating improv exercise that encourages players to walk around the stage in a freeform manner, while interacting with music. The pianist sets the mood and rhythm, allowing for a dynamic atmosphere.
Players enter and exit the walk as activities are called out, fostering spontaneity and creativity.

Setup Requirements

A stage space and a pianist capable of improvising music.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to embrace freedom in their movements.
  • Remind them to listen closely to the music for cues.
  • Prompt them to fully immerse in the activities they are called into.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for players' energy and how they interact with the music.
  • Notice the spontaneity of their movements and responses.
  • Look for moments of connection between players during activities.

Evaluation

  • How did the music influence your movements?
  • What was it like switching activities during the walk?
  • Did you feel free to express yourself? Why or why not?
