The goal is to enhance the depth and dimension of the narration while remaining focused on the given directions.

Setup Requirements

A stage area or open space for the actor to perform.

Point of Concentration

Engaging descriptive elements.

Side Coaching

  • Concentrate on the color in the scene!
  • Concentrate on the sounds in the scene!
  • Concentrate on your feelings about the event!
  • Concentrate on a specific detail or object!

Points of Observation

  • Watch for moments when the actor becomes natural and relaxed.
  • Notice when they stop relying on words and connect with the environment.
  • Evaluate how the concentration on specific details shapes the narration.

Evaluation

  • How did the focus change the way you narrated?
  • Did you find it easier or harder to stay true to your original narrative?
  • What new elements emerged as you focused on the details?

Examples

  • "As I stepped onto the field, I could see the bright red of the pitcher's shirt flashing like a warning sign. The wind swirled, carrying the smell of popcorn and fresh grass."
  • "The game was tense; every cheer from the crowd felt like a wave, lifting me higher with each score!"
