The Specialized Where

Game Intermediate 30 min 2–6

Description

In this game, two or more players use a common general location, called the Where, such as a hotel room, an office, or a schoolroom. Each team must develop this Where into a more specialized setting. The players then perform a scene within their uniquely defined environment.

Setup Requirements

Space for teams to perform scenes and access to physical objects for props.

Point of Concentration

to show specialized Where through the use of physical objects

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to think creatively about their chosen Where.
  • Prompt them to integrate specific objects to enhance the scene's authenticity.
  • Challenge the actors to consider unusual or unrealistic settings.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for how the rhythm of the scene changes based on the specialized Where chosen.
  • Note the use of objects and whether they convey the location effectively.
  • Look for creativity in selecting unusual settings and props.

Evaluation

  • Did the chosen objects make the setting distinctive and recognizable?
  • Were there effective uses of non-verbal cues to show the location?
  • How well did players manage to differentiate variations of Where through objects alone?

Examples

  • A Paris hotel room with a small Eiffel Tower replica.
  • A hospital office complete with a stethoscope and charts.
  • A jungle schoolroom filled with tropical plants and animal figurines.
