Description

Theme-Scene is an advanced improvisation exercise for teams. Participants explore a given theme and a chosen scene to develop a performance that highlights the theme.
Teams work with activating phrases and various locations to create engaging narratives. The exercise encourages creativity and deeper emotional connection to the theme.

Setup Requirements

Slips of paper, writing instruments, space for teams to work separately.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage teams to fully embody the theme.
  • Focus on character interactions that highlight the theme.
  • Remind players to avoid becoming too structured; keep it fluid.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for how well the teams integrate the theme into their scenes.
  • Notice if the players are actively engaging with the theme or shifting to mere storytelling.
  • Look for emotional depth in character portrayals.

Evaluation

  • How effectively did each team convey the theme?
  • What emotions did the scenes evoke?
  • Were participants engaged and responsive to the theme throughout?
