Calling-Out Exercise

Exercise Beginner 15 min 2–10

Description

This exercise engages two or more players in creating a scenario where they must call out to each other across a wide distance. Players choose a setting, characters, and context requiring clear vocal communication.
Example scenario: Where: Cave Who: Guide and tourists What: Tourists separated from guides.

Setup Requirements

Space for players to spread out, quiet environment for focus.

Point of Concentration

Maintaining vocal contact at a distance.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to project their voices as if calling over a large distance.
  • Remind them to be aware of their surroundings and use their bodies to support their vocal delivery.

Points of Observation

  • Check if students create a believable distance with their voices.
  • Observe how well they maintain character while communicating.

Evaluation

  • Was the vocal contact realistic for the chosen situation?
  • Did players express the urgency or importance of their communication?

Examples

  • Tourist: "Where are you? I can't see you!"
  • Guide: "Follow my voice! I'm over here!"
