Exercise Beginner 15 min 10–30

Description

In this exercise, a large group of participants gathers together on stage. They will express a specific type of weather or climate without using their hands. This can be a weather condition agreed upon by the group or prompted by a teacher/director.

Setup Requirements

Open space for all participants to move freely.

Side Coaching

  • Feel the rain between your toes.
  • Imagine the rain running down your spine.
  • Picture the drops at the end of your nose!

Points of Observation

  • Watch how participants convey different weather effectively without their hands.
  • Observe the creativity and physicality of each portrayal.

Evaluation

  • To actors: Did you feel the rain differently without the use of your hands?
  • To audience: Was this a more interesting showing of weather?

Examples

  • Participants may mimic the gentle fall of snow by shivering and moving slowly.
  • Express a strong wind by swaying their bodies and leaning as if pushed.
  • Represent a sunny day with wide smiles and warming gestures.
