Camera

Exercise Beginner 15 min 2–2

Description

Camera is a lead-up exercise to develop focus and energy between players. In this activity, two players agree on a simple scene activity, like eating or sitting on a park bench. Throughout the scene, a teacher-director calls out one player's name intermittently.
When a player's name is called, they must shift all their attention to their partner while maintaining the scene's continuity. The goal is to create an image of becoming a camera, where one player focuses entirely on the other.

Setup Requirements

Space for two participants to perform a scene.

Point of Concentration

Focus on the other player.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to fully engage with their partner.
  • Remind them to maintain the scene as they switch focus.
  • Use body language to enhance connection.

Points of Observation

  • Are players giving total attention to their partner?
  • How well do they switch focus without breaking the scene?

Evaluation

  • Did the players engage fully with their partner?
  • How did they use non-verbal cues to convey attention?

Examples

  • Player A: "I'm so hungry, what should we eat?"
  • Director: "Player A!"
  • Player B looks at Player A and responds: "How about some pizza?"
