Description

In this solo exercise, the player conveys a specific time of day through actions without using words. Before going on stage, the player writes a time on a slip of paper and hands it to the teacher.
The emphasis is on how the chosen time influences behavior and choices in the performance.

Setup Requirements

Bare stage and slips of paper for writing the time.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to focus on body language and movement.
  • Ask them to imagine their character's mindset at that time of day.
  • Remind them to stay silent but expressive.

Points of Observation

  • Watch how the player embodies their chosen time.
  • Notice the physical choices they make (e.g., hurried versus slow movements).
  • Pay attention to use of space—how do they interact with the environment?

Evaluation

  • What time was it? How did the player's actions reflect this?
  • Did the player successfully convey the mood associated with that time of day?
  • Were the audience's reactions aligned with the time depicted?

Examples

  • Man enters quietly, removes shoes, and freezes at a startling noise.
  • Girl sleepily prepares food while nodding off, showing early morning tiredness.
  • Worker sets tools aside, eats lunch, then returns to his task, depicting midday.
