What Time Is It? B

Exercise Intermediate 15 min 5–20

Description

In this exercise, players work individually while considering the concept of time. Each player receives the same time cue and reflects on how that time feels in their bodies. Movement is only permitted if prompted by the Point of Concentration. The focus is on an internal exploration of time rather than external actions.

Setup Requirements

Open stage space with enough room for all players to sit or stand comfortably.

Point of Concentration

Feel time through your body.

Side Coaching

  • Feel the time in your feet.
  • Notice the sensations in your spine.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for variations in how actors respond to the same time cue.
  • Consider how different times affect energy levels differently, such as 2:00 a.m. versus midday.
  • Observe how time can influence movement and presence without props.

Evaluation

  • Is there a physical reaction to the concept of time?
  • How does drowsiness differ between various times of the day?
  • Can actors communicate the essence of time without props or specific settings?

Examples

For example, an actor might express the heaviness of late afternoon drowsiness or the alertness of early morning.
