Conversation with Involvement

Exercise Beginner 30 min 2–10

Description

In this exercise, two or more players engage in a discussion on a chosen topic while enjoying a meal. The focus is on sensory experiences associated with the food and drinks they consume.
Players must maintain a continuous conversation throughout the meal, taking care to express their sensations as they eat and drink.

Setup Requirements

A meal with various foods and drinks, napkins.

Point of Concentration

Giving life to the object through the senses.

Side Coaching

  • Taste the food!
  • Feel the texture of the napkin!
  • What is the temperature of the drinking water?
  • Chew your food!
  • Smell the food!

Points of Observation

  • Observe how players showcase relationships in their dialogue.
  • If players resist focusing on the sensory aspects, they may not be ready for this exercise.
  • Ensure players do not create a scripted situation.
  • Take note of their immediate environment.
  • Break down the sensory experience into different parts.
  • Encourage using all senses together.

Evaluation

  • Did the players give sensory reality to the objects?
  • Did they show us or simply tell us?
  • What kind of soup were they drinking?
  • Was the meat hot?

Examples

"This soup is warm and fragrant!"
"The steak is tender and juicy, just how I like it."
"I love the crunch of the salad!"
