This exercise involves teams performing scenes in gibberish. After each performance, the same scene is repeated in English. The goal is to focus on clarity in non-verbal communication and understanding.
Setup Requirements
Space large enough for group performances, prepared floorplans for scenes.
Point of Concentration
Make everything understandable to the other actors.
Side Coaching
Encourage players to express emotions through body language.
Remind them to help each other understand without using clear words.
Ask questions to prompt players about their non-verbal cues.
Points of Observation
Watch for how clearly players convey messages without words.
Take note of moments where players assume or fill in for each other.
Identify instances of unnecessary verbalizing when gibberish is used.
Evaluation
Was the meaning clear in the gibberish communication?
Did the English repeat match the original intent?
How effectively did players assist each other's understanding?
Examples
Example 1: A player mimics a cooking scene without using specific words, just sounds and gestures.
Example 2: One player pretends to be lost, expressing confusion through gibberish and movement.
