Description

This is a solo exercise focused on concentration and embodying age. The player sits quietly on a bench, thinking only about a specific age they choose. They repeat this age to themselves, using it to anchor their thoughts and movements.

Setup Requirements

A quiet space with a bench or chair for the player to sit on.

Point of Concentration

Side Coaching

  • Concentrate on the problem!
  • Think the age in your feet, upper lip, and spine!
  • When age appears: Bus is a block away! Held up in traffic!

Points of Observation

  • Watch for moments when the actor shows age without overt action.
  • Note the release of body memory and the subtlety of movement.
  • Observe changes in body grace and presence after the exercise.

Evaluation

  • Did you focus solely on the age?
  • What feelings or memories did this exercise evoke?
  • Did you find it challenging to blank your mind?
