Involvement in Threes or More

Exercise Beginner 15 min 3–6

Description

In this exercise, participants work in groups of three or more to collaboratively interact with an agreed-upon object. The goal is for everyone to participate in a joint action that involves moving the object together.
Examples of objects include: pulling a fishnet, tugging a boat, portaging a canoe, pushing a stalled car, or taffy pulling.

Setup Requirements

Open space for movement and interaction.

Point of Concentration

To make the object real.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage all members to engage with the object.
  • Remind participants to focus on teamwork and coordination.
  • Challenge them to find a way to move the object that requires everyone's involvement.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for group dynamics; ensure all players are involved.
  • Look for signs of coordination versus individual effort.
  • Note if players rely on one another to address challenges with the object.

Evaluation

  • Did the group work together effectively?
  • Could one person have managed the task alone?
  • Were participants working on the problem jointly or separately?

Examples

Examples include:
  • Three players tugging on a boat.
  • Portaging a canoe together.
  • Pushing a stalled car with all players involved.
