Description

This exercise focuses on performing actions with an object while emphasizing beginnings and endings. The player will learn to develop detail and precision in their movements.
The activity is divided into three parts, gradually increasing in complexity and speed.

Setup Requirements

A small object such as a pack of cigarettes.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage energy when saying 'Begin!' and 'End!'
  • Focus on clarity of each movement.
  • Stress the importance of detail in handling the object.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for distinct beginnings and endings in each action.
  • Notice how energy affects the clarity of the movements.
  • Look for improvement in detail handling from Part A to Part C.

Evaluation

  • To the actor: Which part felt the most real?
  • To the audience: Which action looked the most realistic?

  • Touches the pack: “Begin!”
  • Grasps the pack: “End!”
  • Removes a cigarette: “Begin!”
  • Moves it toward the mouth: “Begin!”
  • Grasps with mouth: “End!”
