In this exercise, players create physical scenes by freezing in random positions. An outside person spins the players, who then fall into positions. Each player must then derive a scenario from their stance, focusing on categories like location, character, emotion, activity, or relationship.
Players engage with one another, using their frozen positions to develop a cohesive scene based on the selected categories.
Setup Requirements
Open space with enough room for players to move freely.
Point of Concentration
Body position and responding to fellow players based on selected category.
Side Coaching
Encourage players to embrace stillness before the scene starts.
Remind players to focus on responding to each other's movements.
Prompt players to explore the category they select fully.
Points of Observation
Watch for players trying to control the scene instead of letting it evolve naturally.
Notice if players respond spontaneously or if they struggle with silence.
See how players interact based on the chosen elements of the scene.
Evaluation
How naturally did players fall into their positions?
Did the scene evolve through group interaction or individual decisions?
How did the back-stage influence the action on stage?
Examples
A player frozen as a tree discovers they are in a forest.
A character is holding an imaginary phone; they become a frantic news reporter.
Two players in a dance position realize they are at a wedding.
