Camera is a lead-up exercise to develop focus and energy between players. In this activity, two players agree on a simple scene activity, like eating or sitting on a park bench. Throughout the scene, a teacher-director calls out one player's name intermittently.
When a player's name is called, they must shift all their attention to their partner while maintaining the scene's continuity. The goal is to create an image of becoming a camera, where one player focuses entirely on the other.
Setup Requirements
Space for two participants to perform a scene.
Point of Concentration
Focus on the other player.
Side Coaching
Encourage players to fully engage with their partner.
Remind them to maintain the scene as they switch focus.
Use body language to enhance connection.
Points of Observation
Are players giving total attention to their partner?
How well do they switch focus without breaking the scene?
Evaluation
Did the players engage fully with their partner?
How did they use non-verbal cues to convey attention?
Examples
Player A: "I'm so hungry, what should we eat?"
Director: "Player A!"
Player B looks at Player A and responds: "How about some pizza?"
