In this exercise, two players explore a hidden relationship on stage. One player (A) is seated while the other (B) enters and interacts without revealing their pre-planned relationship. Player A must discover who they are based on Player B's cues and interactions.
After the initial scene, the roles are reversed, allowing Player A to choose the relationship for Player B to uncover.
Setup Requirements
A bench or two chairs on stage for seating.
Point of Concentration
To communicate relationship without telling a story.
Side Coaching
Focus on physical clues and body language.
Avoid explicit verbal explanations of the relationship.
Encourage emotional connection between players.
Points of Observation
Observe how effectively B communicates the relationship through action.
Check if A is able to accurately deduce the relationship.
Notice the use of props and space in enhancing the scene.
Evaluation
Did B show the relationship or tell?
How could they improve their non-verbal cues?
What worked well in the scene, and what didn’t?
Examples
Example Scenario: A (girl) is seated on a bench. B (girl) enters and exclaims, "Hello, darling! How are you?" B begins fussing over A's hair, revealing a caring relationship.
Another Example: B might enter as a concerned friend or a strict teacher, each distinctly guiding A to discover their character.
