Game Beginner 10 min 4–20

Description

This activity focuses on creating a shared space, or 'Where', through collective object addition. Players take turns adding objects to the stage while using the previously placed objects to construct the scene. After painting in the 'Where' a scene can also be started by having one of the players add a 'Who' and immediately start as that person.

Setup Requirements

Open stage space for performance and audience visibility.

Point of Concentration

To build a Where.

Side Coaching

  • Encourage players to think creatively about how to use existing objects.
  • Remind players to interact with the environment they create.
  • Monitor the flow and ensure everyone contributes.

Points of Observation

  • Watch for how players use each other's objects effectively.
  • Note the development of characters as objects are added.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration in scene building.

Evaluation

  • How many players simply placed objects without engaging with the scene?
  • Did players create distinct characters as they entered and added objects?
  • Let players add atmosphere to the 'Where' as well. (e.g. 'The Floor is sticky...')

Examples

Example scenario:

  • Player one places a counter.
  • Player two uses the counter and adds a birdcage.
  • Player three incorporates the counter and birdcage, adding an aquarium.
  • Player four builds on this by adding a broom closet.
